Christina Aguilera Disses Simon Cowell

Christina Aguilera may be a judge on “The Voice,” but don’t expect to catch her watching “American Idol” or any other singing competition show. The singer got candid at the Billboard/Hollywood Reporter Film & TV Conference Thursday where she shared her true feelings about Simon Cowell. The 31-year-old used expletives while describing Cowell’s judging style.

“I was like, ‘Man, that’s not what it’s about!’ I didn’t want to treat people like that,” Aguilera said about Cowell’s tough commentary. “I wanted to do ‘The Voice’ to show that we can be positive.

We don’t have to knock people down.” Aguilera, whose new album “Lotus” hits stores Nov. 13, talked about her evolving career and how she worked to separate herself from songs like her first hit single, “Genie in a Bottle.” The singer prefers songs with more meaning, like her 2003 hit “Beautiful.” Linda Perry, the writer of “Beautiful,” was the one who helped Aguilera find her own style and discouraged her from being like Mariah Carey, she said. “‘Don’t do all that Mariah sh-’ — that was her, not me, I love that sh–!” Aguilera said about Perry. “But she was like, ‘Don’t be doing all that acrobatic sh–, just sing!’” Using more expletives, Aguilera was blunt about her hatred for tabloids and gossip bloggers.

The “Your Body” singer insists that she stays away from anything in the tabloids, whether it’s good news or bad. “I’m a mother. I’m a businesswoman. I have a zillion and one things going on in my head, on my plate, creatively,” the singer said. “I put my son to bed then I go right into my backyard, which is my studio house. It’s a lot. I really truly don’t have time for the static noise. It’s just not real. They’re not real magazines. It’s trash. It’s rumors.” Aguilera’s had many highs and lows since she shot to fame with “Genie in a Bottle” in 1999.

Her 2010 album “Bionic” failed to be a commercial success and that same year, her acting debut in “Burlesque” wasn’t exactly a hit. But, Aguilera said, between the highs and the lows, it’s all about balance. “S**t happens, man. This is the business,” she said. “It’s not going to be all cute and pretty and tied up in a little bow.”
